Little Brook, NS – June 29, 2023: While remaining committed to sustaining community vitality through investments in healthcare, housing and improvements to its public spaces, the Municipality of Clare has announced a balanced operating budget of $11,637,866 for the 2023-2024 fiscal year.

For the ninth consecutive year, there was no increase in the residential property tax rate of $1.04 per $100 of assessment, nor in the commercial property tax rate of $2.07 per $100 of assessment.

The Clare Health Centre, the municipality's physician recruitment strategy and housing for low-income seniors are three essential public health services that continue to receive financial support from the Municipality of Clare. This year, $1,048,755 (or 9% of the 2023-2024 operating budget) will be dedicated to the municipality's commitment to public health services in Clare.

Moreover, the municipality will also help fund several local projects and cultural services aimed at promoting community development and preserving the region's heritage. More precisely, the municipality will continue to support key events such as the Festival acadien de Clare, the Gran Fondo Baie Sainte-Marie and the Congrès Mondial Acadien 2024. A total of $1,472,760 (or 13% of the 2023-2024 operating budget) will be dedicated to community development.

In terms of protective services, the municipality will spend a total of $3,007,523 (or 16% of the 2023-2024 operating budget). Protective services include Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) services, fire services and building inspections. In addition, the municipality continues to invest in the Safety for Seniors program and emergency management operations.

The municipality is committed to contributing to the quality of community services. For instance, it will contribute to the funding of the Transport de Clare public transit service and continue to implement its accessibility strategy as defined in its new accessibility plan.

As the only municipality operating in both French and English in Nova Scotia, the Municipality of Clare is pleased to continue offering bilingual municipal services to residents, businesses, and visitors.
